Quotes from a year of stories
Use your waiting room as your classroom
Hi! I'm Jo, writing from Heart & Soil homestead, a 1-acre homestead in the Far South of Cape Town, South Africa. Every week I share inspiration and education for your growing journey. Thanks so much for reading!
Welcome to Stories, where growers, homesteaders and small-scale farmers in South Africa share about their journeys.
Today I'm celebrating over a year of weekly stories by picking out a few quotes and pictures, as a reminder of all the wisdom of the past year.
Do not ask yourself what the world needs, but ask yourself what makes you come alive and go and do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive

Benson from Muizenburg: I choose to farm inclusively and collectively on common land to facilitate change on two levels: helping people grow and helping them heal.

Cilla from Fishhoek: make time, give it time and everything has its own time.

Lara from Wildwood homestead: Don’t strive for perfection. Projects do not need to be picture-perfect to be functional. They can be messy and evolve as you go.

Audry and Masana: Don’t strive for perfection. Projects do not need to be picture-perfect to be functional. They can be messy and evolve as you go.

“If you’re not having fun, you have the design wrong.”-Geoff Lawton

Fiona’s beautiful handbuilt home in Rosetta, KZN

Elisabeth and Jan- regenerative agriculture in Swellendam
“Curiosity drives us forward.”- NASA

Glynnis from Lotus Permaculture: I'm just the curator of the land doing the best I can!

Anso from KZN: Use your waiting room as your classroom.

Jarryd Michael from Esizayo Organics: Start small, but start now.
Raymond Auerbach: You have to build your farming system around the people who are part of it.
Thank you so much to everyone who has shared their story this past year. If you know a grower or farmer who would like to share their story, I share stories every Thursday.
The goal of this series is to keep us growing and learning, and knowing we are connected to a vast network of other growers, in South Africa and beyond.
Join us as keep gathering and reflecting on your stories. If you know someone who’d benefit from weekly inspiration, or if you’d like to view full stories in our archives, you can do so, here!
